Bryan’s Patio & Sidewalk is a complete backyard hardscape upgrade designed to expand outdoor living space, improve access around the home, and create a clean, modern finish that fits the Pacific Northwest setting. The goal was to deliver a patio that feels like a true extension of the house—comfortable for everyday use, but also built for hosting and entertaining.
The centerpiece is a spacious, multi-level paver patio set directly off the back of the home. To handle the elevation change, we constructed wide, low-rise steps with consistent heights and generous tread depth for an easy, natural transition. For safety and atmosphere after sunset, warm LED step lights were integrated into the risers, creating a soft glow that highlights each level and adds a premium look at night.
Material selection focused on a contemporary two-tone palette. Large-format pavers in blended gray tones create a calm, upscale surface, while a darker border frames the layout and defines edges with crisp, architectural lines. The sidewalk was designed as a feature, not an afterthought—installed in a classic herringbone pattern for added texture, traction, and visual interest. A gentle curve guides movement naturally through the yard and into the patio space, balancing clean geometry with a softer approach line.
Durability starts below the surface, so proper preparation was a priority. The area was excavated, regraded, and built on a compacted base to support long-term stability and help prevent shifting or settling through wet seasons. Edge restraints were installed to lock the system in place, and careful cutting ensured tight joints and clean transitions across borders, curves, and step lines. Joint stabilization helps reduce washout and discourages weeds, keeping maintenance simple.
The finished project delivers a polished, functional outdoor space with strong flow, improved safety, and a high-end look—day or night.
